WHAT ARE THEY? and why should we calculate them

“Macro” is short for macronutrients. It refers to the three categories of nutrients we eat most of and that provides us with the bulk of our energy.

  • Carbs (carbohydrates)
  • Protein
  • Fat

The way we split these macros in our diet is determined by our goals. For example it is recommended that for weight loss and optimum muscle growth the split is 40% protein, 30% carbs and 30% fats. However this may vary slightly for your genetic composition and individual energy expenditure.
